The Challenge
Nothing about the rail alignment above could move, settle, or stop. Any surface deformation over a live track carries an unacceptable operational risk, and possession windows were effectively unavailable.
Our Approach
A large-diameter micro-tunnelling drive was set 12 metres below rail level, with face pressure actively managed and a monitoring array installed across the track above to record any movement in real time throughout the drive.
The Outcome
The culvert was completed across 71 days with rail services running normally at all times and monitored track movement remaining below the client's alert threshold for the full programme.
